    Description

Rare! This is the FIRST historic U.S. Post Office gay pride postmark, issued in 1989 to honor 20 years since Stonewall!  This famous postmark was denounced on the floor of the US Senate by Senator Jesse Helms,  An insert in the cover provides a reproduction of a newspaper article concerning Helms' speech.  The postmark was ONLY available on Gay Pride Day, 1989, from a single U.S. Post Office mobile unit stationed on Christopher Street, NYC.  The postmark includes a copyright Keith Haring drawing.  Very rare and historic postmark.  With unusual 'Out of the Closet' cacheted envelope.  Perfect condition.
