What a remarkable find! it would be fantastic for framing and display ~ This wonderful swimming suit is French and dates from 1875-1890 ~ SOOOO exciting! I've never seen another like it. The body cloth is indigo blue dyed cotton with lovely natural cotton panels ~ hand stitched. It's simply BEAUTIFUL ~ A wonderful find , ideal for collectors and museums ~ The big baggy pants were worn under the dress. Today, it wouldn't even be recognized as a swimming suit! ~*~ There is nothing not to adore about this , a wonderful and rare find ~*~ That's me in the suit, and I'm a medium ~*~ the elastic waist is in such good condition I doubt that the elastic is the original ? it was invested by then, but usually when I find elastic in antique clothing it's damaged with time, this one is not! ~*~  . The buttons are made of bone ~ a fabulous antique !! Imagine this hung on the back of a pool house , framed!!

CONDITION : This textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition. There are a few signs of time and use, the back of the pants where the cord ties has come unstitched a little bit. There are some pale marks. There are repairs on the shoulders, they are worn with time. A RARE and fabulous find ~
